Fragment of July

Off-white, creamy hydrangeas the color I want
my wedding dress to be. In full bloom, fluffy
like clouds and cold foam and cotton balls. Like
the Siamese wandering around in the grass with
the reading girl. Cicadas buzzing. Fall taunting
sweet July, a couple crisp leaves rolling around
on the pavement. The rest of the green leaves
dance in the breeze, oblivious to what’s nearing
a couple short months away. My linen outfit will
be retired then, green pants and white blouse wrinkled,
crumpled in the back of my closet.

But for now, let the sun beat on my back,
sweat soak through my linen shirt,
and breeze tease the lovely leaves in their glorious state of oblivion.
